Wintertime calls for all kinds of special clothes. Knits, wool, and heavy jackets all get moved to the front of the closet and your old fleece sweaters start seeing a lot more wear than usual. But how can you keep these bulky outfits and heavy materials clean? It turns out, almost all of your winter favorites can be washed right in a Fisher & Paykel washing machine – even that heavy winter coat!
If your winter clothes need some TLC but you don’t want to risk unraveling your favorite sweater or squishing your comfiest coat, check out these tips on how to wash your favorite winter attire with high-powered and luxurious Fisher & Paykel laundry machines.
Down Coat
Be sure to check the tag for care instructions before you jump into this one, but most parkas and down vests are pretty easy to wash in a washing machine. The biggest challenge is keeping the down from clumping up or going flat inside the coat, but with proper care, that should be easy to avoid.
A special down detergent can make a big difference in how your coat comes out of the wash. These gentle, low-foaming soaps help the down filling keep its natural fluff, but if you don’t have down detergent on hand, a gentle, liquid laundry soap should do the trick.
Down coats are best washed in a front-loading Fisher & Paykel washer. High-capacity Fisher & Paykel washing machines have plenty of space for bulky down coats and they wash gently enough to keep your jacket in tip-top condition. Finish off with a low-heat dry in your dryer – Fisher & Paykel’s moisture-sensing technology makes sure your coat dries evenly and quickly.
Fleece Jacket
Fleece is a super warm, lightweight way to stay cozy in the winter, but how do you wash it? The answer, once again, is your handy-dandy Fisher & Paykel laundry pair. Fleece jackets should be washed using warm or cool (but not hot) water. Because fleece is prone to wrinkling, your Fisher & Paykel’s permanent press cycle will typically offer the best results. Be sure to keep it separate from clothing that produces a lot of lint, as fleece tends to pick up dust and fibers in the wash.
When the cycle is done, you can tumble dry your jacket on low heat in your Fisher & Paykel dryer. Be sure to use your Fisher & Paykel’s wrinkle free option, to ward away those wrinkles that fleece tends to attract in the laundry.
Wool Sweater
Wool doesn’t need to be washed often, but when yours is officially in need of some TLC, you can trust your Fisher & Paykel to clean it up for you. With Fisher & Paykel’s Woolmark guarantee, your woolens will come out of the wash safe and sound every time!
Now, you might be in the habit of tossing all your laundry together without separating out darks and lights and colors, but when it comes to washing wool, separating your laundry is especially important. Wool picks up colors from other articles of clothing more easily than other materials, and once they’re in, they can be difficult to get out.
Once you’ve separated your laundry by color, turn your wool sweater inside out before tossing it in the machine. Set your Fisher & Paykel washer to its special Wool Wash with the temperature set to cold, and wash as usual. Then, when it’s done, leave your sweater to dry flat, patting it down with towels to remove any excess water. Your sweater should be clean and good as new!
Winter Accessories
If your winter accessories are made of a machine washable material, you’ll want to take extra care to make sure they stay safe in the wash. Smaller items can easily be lost in the machine or caught between heavier clothing, causing them to lose shape. Stash items like gloves, scarves, and socks in a mesh washer bag, to keep them all together and safe from damage. Even better, if you forget a sock or find that missing glove a few minutes into a cycle, Fisher & Paykel’s Add Garment function lets you pause the wash, add in that loose accessory, and then turn the washer back on without any issues.
Leather, Faux Fur, Cashmere, and More
Unfortunately, these materials aren’t as easily washable as some other clothing items, and shouldn’t be run through your Fisher & Paykel. If your jacket has a faux fur hood, be sure to detach it before putting your jacket through the wash, and cashmere should be relegated to the sink or dry cleaner’s. If you have any doubts about a particular article of clothing, be sure to check the tag before you put anything in the washing machine.
